How a cat settles in with us

Cats need height, places to retreat and time to settle in. Here's what that means for our rooms and how the first few days work.

Cats have different needs

Dogs tend to bond strongly with people, while cats also have a strong attachment to their territory. A change of surroundings can therefore be a bigger adjustment for a cat than for a dog, which is why our cat accommodation is designed with this in mind.

Cats feel more secure when they can use different heights. Watch a cat exploring a new room and you will often see her head upwards first – onto a cupboard, a shelf or the highest available spot. From there she can observe everything around her, which helps her feel safe.

The rooms

Every cat room has at least three levels. This allows each cat to choose the spot that suits her best – high up, in the middle or lower down – while neighbouring cats can keep their distance without having to leave the room.

The rooms are equipped with scratching posts, cosy sleeping areas, raised resting places and window seats. The sunny spots in front of the glass doors are especially popular in the mornings.

All areas are air-conditioned: warm in winter, pleasantly cool in summer. Cleaning is done daily and thoroughly.

The first few days

Your cat arrives in her carrier and moves into her room. Almost all cats first look for a place to retreat and observe their new surroundings. After a few hours, curiosity usually takes over, and by the second or third day most cats have explored and settled into their room.

Cats from the same household stay together. Whether a cat stays in a shared or private room depends on how well she gets on with other cats. A private room is available for an additional charge.

Food is included as part of the full-board stay: dry and wet food are always available and included in the price. If your cat requires special food, please bring it with you. We administer medication as arranged.
